“Subsystems”
New works by James Angel
March 18-April 9, 2016

Opening reception: Third Friday, March 18, 6-9pm
Closing reception: First Friday, April 1, 6-10pm

Modified Arts is proud to return to its Art Detour tradition of solo exhibitions from pioneering downtown Phoenix artist James Angel. For his latest exhibition, Angel takes us through an intimate exploration of natural subsystems, supersystems, and systems with substrate independence via emergent mathematical structures and patterns of spacetime.

Artist Statement:
Every thing that exists, exists both as a whole unto itself as well as a component of a greater holistic system. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Any living thing that experiences their environment is conscious. Like bacteria, though unaware of the higher holistic system. (Us). What about our existence in the universe? Is there a larger system?

If the Universe itself is a complex self-organizing dissipative system then not only would the universe have consciousness, but that consciousness would be as old as time and it would envelope all other consciousness within it, including yours and mine.
