About the Gallery

Modified Arts breaks down the traditional art gallery model in its presentation of contemporary art and sound in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. We seek to show conceptually rigorous, nationally relevant work, and strive to connect and cultivate both artist and collector, by facilitating communication and dialogue, in order to offer a true “contemporary arts experience.”

Kimber Lanning opened Modified Arts in 1999 and developed it into a respected gallery and prominently recognized venue for live music and performance. In 2010  husband and wife team Kim Larkin (Director), and Adam Murray (Associate Director) succeeded Lanning and transitioned the space into a full time contemporary art gallery with select, curated musical performances. Larkin and Murray stepped down in June 2011 to pursue other ventures in the Phoenix arts community. Read the press release: http://modifiedarts.org/gallery/press-release.html

Exhibitions

Modified Arts showcases stimulating and assertive artwork in an accessible and open environment. Our monthly exhibitions feature regional, national, and international artists of all media and seek to provide a fresh perspective for both new and established collectors. Exhibitions include contemporary painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, multi-media, and installation.

Performances

Modified Arts holds a select number of performances in the gallery space each year. Musical performances range from jazz to contemporary classical to experimental music, and take advantage of the unique quality and intimacy of the space. We aim to provide downtown Phoenix with a place for professional musicians, performance artists, dancers, and actors to experiment and for audiences to enjoy diverse experiences. Each experience is hand crafted to fit well within the space and offer an avenue of sophisticated creativity to the area.
